From 2030, suppliers will only be able to qualify for NHS contracts if they can demonstrate their progress through published reports and continued carbon emissions reporting.

Before that date requirements are expected, from April 2027 all suppliers are required to publicly report targets, emissions and publish a Carbon Reduction Plan aligned with the NHS Net Zero target. From April 2028 new requirements will be introduced overseeing the provision of carbon foot printing for individual products supplied to the NHS.

NHS Evergreen areas of focus:

Carbon Emissions and Net Zero

  • NHS Evergreen demands all suppliers address environmental measures in effect (e.g. carbon reduction projects), continuing the requirements of PPN06/21. 
  • You will need guidance on setting your minimum Net Zero target year and it must be made publicly available. If you aim for Level 1 or 2 certification, then you must offer a date no later than 2050, but that reduces to 2045 for NHS Evergreen Levels 3, and 4.
  • NHS Evergreen requires validation of your Net Zero target and verification of emissions provided for levels 3 and 4.
